Yale University started back in 1701 as a small “Collegiate School,” created by church leaders to train ministers. In 1718, after a big gift from a supporter named Elihu Yale, it was renamed Yale College. During the 1800s, the school grew a lot, launching graduate programs and even awarding the first PhD in the United States in 1861. By 1896, it officially became Yale University. Applying to Yale as a first-year student, You only need to choose one application platform to apply to Yale for first-year undergraduate admission:
- Common Application – The most widely used platform for U.S. colleges.
- Coalition Application – Another option that works much like the Common App.
- QuestBridge Application– For students participating in the QuestBridge National College Match program.
Yale does not prefer one platform over another, but you may submit only one application per admissions cycle.
